한국해양대학교는 76년간 바다를 중심으로 교육과 연구활동을 하며 대한민국이 해양강국이 되는데 이바지한 지성의 산실입니다. 전통 깊은 역사 속에서 큰 시대적 변화를 맞을 때마다 도전정신으로 해양계의 발전을 이끌며 세계가 인정하는 해양특성화 종합대학으로 발전해나가고 있습니다.

이제 4차 산업혁명이라는 새로운 시대를 맞아 전통과 자부심에 안주할 수 없게 되었습니다. 시대에 맞는 새로운 가치를 창출하고 어떠한 변화에도 대응할 수 있는 유연하고 역동성 있는 인재를 양성해야 합니다.

해양은 본래 끊임없는 변화의 속성을 가지고 있습니다. 해양에서는 고요한 바다가 거대한 파도로 바뀌는 상황을 흔들림 없이 대처하면서 앞으로 나아가야만 합니다. 우리는 지금 변화의 속도가 빠른 불확실성의 시대를 맞고 있지만 어떤 파도라도 당당하게 맞섰던 그 기질을 아낌없이 발휘하여 혁신의 길로 나아갈 것입니다.

우리가 연구하고 인재를 길러내는 해양산업이 종합적인 산업의 성격이 있지만 앞으로 우리는 더욱 다양한 분야와의 융합을 통해 그 영역을 넓혀나갈 것입니다. 우리의 강점인 해양특성화를 기본으로 모든 학문과 교류하여 경계를 허물고 다양한 분야의 시각을 갖춘 인재를 양성하겠습니다.

전공영역에 갇히지 않고 유연하게 새로운 영역으로 접근하여 전체를 볼 수 있는 시스템적 사고를 하도록 길을 만들겠습니다. 이를 위해 서로 소통하고 공감의 영역을 넓혀나가며 가치를 공유해 하나가 되는 대학공동체가 되겠습니다. 경험하지 못한 미래가 오고 있지만 도전을 멈추지 않는다면 새로운 기회가 될 것이며, 그 길을 두려움 없이 걸어갈 수 있도록 든든한 기반과 버팀목이 되는 대학이 되겠습니다. 함께 걸어가 주시기 바랍니다.

Korea Maritime & Ocean University (KMOU) has conducted education and research about the maritime and the ocean over the past 76 years and has served as a cradle of intelligence, making Korea a maritime powerhouse. Whenever it faced a paradigm shift throughout it’s long-lasting tradition, KMOU developed itself as a world class university, specializing in maritime and ocean taking the lead in advancement of the maritime industry.

With the advent of the 4th Industrial Revolution, taking pride in one’s history alone is not sufficient any more . KMOU is mandated to create new values befitting the new era and foster flexible and dynamic talented equipped to cope with all future challenges. By its very nature, the ocean consistently changes. We must keep the will to forge ahead, dealing with unpredictable situations where gentle waves turn into raging storms. Despite this rapidly changing world full of uncertainties, we will march on the path of innovation with the courage to brave all storms, no matter how violent.

As we conduct R&D and nurture the talented for the maritime industry spanning multiple disciplines, we will broaden its scope by converging with a variety of other fields. Focusing on specialty in maritime and ocean, which is our strength, we will encourage interaction with the overall academia, transcend boundaries, and instill diverse perspectives into our teach students

Our students will learn how to think systematically and see the wood rather than the trees by opening themselves up to other fields besides their major, approaching new areas with a flexible mindset. To this end, KMOU will be a community where students can interact and empathize with one another. The uncertain future approaching us will turn into a new opportunity if we keep challenging ourselves. KMOU will be a solid bedrock to support our students so that they can walk toward the future without fearing it.
